Setting up  Eudora 7.x in IMAP mode

 

  1. Go to WWW.EUDORA.COM to download  Eudora 7.  Install the program, accepting all the defaults.
  2. Open Eudora.  You will first see a screen that tells you about the three modes that Eudora can run in, depending on whether you purchase it or not.  Click Next .
  3. The New Account Wizard will open.  Click Next to continue.

 

 

  1. At the resulting screen, make sure that Create a brand new email account is selected then click Next.

 


  1. At the next screen, type your name (Firstname Lastname) and click Next to continue.

 

 

  1. In the resulting window, type your KU email address here (youraccount@ku.edu) and click Next to continue.

 


  1. At the screen below, enter your KU account name (youraccountname), but don’t add @ku.edu.

 

 

  1. At the next screen, type imap.ku.edu as the Incoming Server and click on IMAP to select the type of server.  Click Next to continue.

  1. Enter password if prompted.  Eudora will fetch the folders from your account.

 

  1. SBC DSL users:  There is a little more setup that needs to be done before you’re ready to use Eudora.  Go to the Tools menu and choose Options.  If you are a DSL user, you will need to set an alternate port for sending email.  In the column to the left, find and click on Sending Mail.  Turn on Use submission port (587), as shown below.  Click OK to save your change.

 

 

  1. Next, you need  to set up access to KU’s global address list.  This will allow you to find the email addresses of most people on campus.  Click on  in the toolbar at the top of the screen to bring up the Address Book.

 

 

  1. Click on the Directory Services tab at the bottom of the screen.  On the resulting screen, click on New Database. 

 

  1. At the next window, make the following changes:

·        At the Type the name by which you want to refer to this server prompt, type KU Address List.

·        Host Name is directory.ku.edu

·        Leave This service requires me to log on and Use SSL unchecked, as shown.

You’re finished with this page, but don’t click OK yet.

 


 

  1. On the Search Options screen, type ou=people,dc=ku,dc=edu in the Search Base field.  Leave the rest of the screen at the default settings and click OK to exit.

 


 

  1. Back at the Address Book, find KU Address List in the Databases list and activate it by clicking the box next to the name.  If you want to test the KU Address List, type a name in the Query field and click Start.  The system should respond with a list of all names/addresses in the KU list that contain that name. 

 

Note:  The default setup for Eudora has a very small window to show the list of addresses.  You may want to enlarge it by hovering your mouse over the line between the two windows under the Query box until it becomes a double arrow, then dragging the line down toward the bottom of the screen.

 

If you want to send to one of the addresses, click on the name, then click on the To, Cc or BCC buttons below the list .
